Microsoft has released its Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) 2014 R2, which is available for Microsoft Customers with Software Assurance. The MDOP 2014 R2 is the follow up of the MDOP 2013 R2 which was released in December last year.
The Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack contains the following technologies:
5nine has released version 6.0 of its Microsoft hypervisor management solution 5nine Manager. 5nine Manager is capable of managing multiple versions of Microsoft Hyper-V hosts, and also provdes an agentless antivirus plugin for full and incremental VM and host scans. Besides that it provides features like Hyper-V logs, Application logs, an integrated Best Practices Analyzer, the ability to copy Hyper-V settings between hosts and a File Manager.
New functionality in version 6.0:
Dell has released version 8.5 of its VDI Connection Broker Software Wyse vWorkspace. vWorkSpace was part of the product portfolio of Quest when it was acquired by Dell in September 2012. Version 8.5 is the follow up of version 8.0 which was released in April last year, and now the Wyse product line brand is added to its name.
Starting in this version, vWorkSpace offers a connector which works on HTML 5 capable browsers.

On October 1st VMware announced the upcoming features for Workstation version 11 and Player Pro version 7. Today VMware released both version making them generally available to VMware customers. Starting with these versions VMware will require users to run the products on 64 bit Operating Systems, abandoning the 32 bit platform.
Dell has released a paper titled: "Dell Wyse Datacenter for VMware Horizon View Reference Architecture v.6.6". The paper which contains 110 pages contains a Reference Architecture for the design, configuration and implementation of a VMware Horizon View environment.
The document describes a Dell Wyse Datacenter for VMware Horizon View Reference Architecture scaling from 50 to 50,000+ virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) users.
5nine has released version 5 of its Cloud Security for Hyper-V product. Cloud Security for Hyper-V is a solution which helps to ensure security and compliance for Hyper-V environments. It provides agentless anti-virus, compliance enforcement and traffic control/VM isolation. Management can be done using a Centralized Management Console or by using a plugin into System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM).

Veeam today announced the release of version 8 of its Availability Suite. It combines the Veeam Backup & Replication version 8 product together with Veeam ONE version 8, where Backup & Replication provides backup, restore and replication capabilities and ONE provides monitoring, reporting and capacity planning for VMware and Hyper-V virtualization platforms.

Midokura is a Japanese startup that released, back in 2013, MidoNet a network virtualization solution for OpenStack.
Yesterday, at OpenStack Summit in Paris, the company announced the decision to open source the core pieces of MidoNet making them freely available to the public under Apache 2.0 license.
This decision is intended to encourage user adoption and reflects the trend that sees Open Source as more and more central in vendors’ strategies.
