Release: Oracle Solaris 11.1

Today, October 3rd, Oracle announced the release of Oracle Solaris 11.1 at Oracle OpenWorld 2012, in San Francisco.

This is the first update to the Oracle Solaris 11 operating system, since its release in November 2011, and it is focused on integration between Oracle products, virtualization and protection allowing to create a mission-critical cloud environment.

Release: Precise V9.5 expanding visibility into VMware Virtualization

Precise, an independent company with over 20 years delivering application performance management solutions in application performance management (APM), on October 1st announced the availability of Precise 9.5

This software would allow to detect and resolve virtual contention issues, reducing risks and ensuring quality for systems using cloud and virtual environments, also providing solutions to the management of mobile traffic.  Precise 9.5 would increase visibility into VMware-virtualized servers and EMC-based virtualized storage, it would permit IT administrators to manage applications in VMware environments in a clearer way.

This release includes new or updated features including enhanced visibility into VMware — Precise built in new tools for managing VMware and providing IT administrators with the ability to see how apps run in VMware environments. Veeam Software announces support for Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V

Today, October 2nd, Veeam Software, VMware Technology and Microsoft partner, producer of software for virtual infrastructure management and data protection announced support for Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V.

The company with headquarters in Switzerland, Columbus, Ohio, Paris and Sydney, develops backup softwares that allows to manage VMware and Hyper-V, starting from Q4 2012 it will be available its support for Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V.  Veeam Backup & Replication 6.5 and Veeam ONE 6.5 are being demonstrated  as Beta versions at a series of Windows Server 2012 and Microsoft Cloud-OS launch events worldwide.

VKernel Enhances Support for Growing MSP Install Base

Capacity Management product provider VKernel announced today, October 2nd, enhanced support for its managed service providers (MSP) install base.

VKernel, a division of Dell Software, founded in 2007, provides capacity management products for VMware, Microsoft and Red Hat virtualized infrastructures, its products allow to simplify the planning, monitoring and predicting capacity utilization and performance bottlenecks.

Stratus Technologies acquires Marathon Technologies

On September 24, Stratus Technologies Inc., the producer of fault tolerant computer servers and Stratus Avance software in June 2008, a high availability product with virtualization built announced the acquisition of Marathon Technologies Corp., the company responsible of a software and networking technology that allowed multiple Windows/Intel servers to operate as a single fault-tolerant system.
Both companies are based in Massachusetts, after this transaction, Marathon’s employers who are based mostly in the company headquarter will be offered employment with Stratus. This alliance would enhance Stratus software portfolio, expanding its customer base, the company would be able to amplify further into virtualization and private cloud-computing implementations.

CompuCom partners with Virtual Bridges

CompuCom, the texan IT outsourcing company specialized in data center and cloud computing, network, and IT Infrastructure Services just joined up with Virtual Bridges, another texan company that develops desktop virtualization solution, providing support for Windows and Linux desktops, together they will deliver Desktop Cloud as a Managed Service


The join venture would allow the two companies to deliver a virtualized desktop solution that would be delivered and managed as a service, as an hosted offering of directly where it is needed. The focus is to give a complete cloud-based desktop infrastructure product that would permit to get a manageable and automatic environment that would work on all devices, reducing cost and time.

Release: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9

On September 21, Red Hat announced the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.9

This is a beta minor release  and it is part of the commitment that Red Hat guaranteed for 10 years, to provide a stable Life Cycle for its products. This distribution also offers new virtualization and networking functionalities, possibilities to support the lates platforms and new features such as Red Hat Subscription Management.
