Microsoft has released a paper titled: "Hyper-V Replica and Riverbed". The paper which contains 14 pages and details how Hyper-V replica works in conjunction with the WAN optimazation solution from Riverbed using the Steelhead appliance. Hyper-V Replica provides the ability to perform asynchronous and frequent replication of virtual machines to another server running Windows Server 2012 with the Hyper-V role installed.

Paper: DVS Enterprise – Active System 800v with VMware Horizon View 5.2: Reference Architecture
Dell has released a paper titled: "DVS Enterprise – Active System 800v with VMware Horizon View 5.2: Reference Architecture".
The paper which contains 60 pages details a reference architecture for running VMware Horizon 5.2 desktop virtualization on top of Dell converged infrastructure solution, the Active System 800v.
The Active System 800v includes Dell PowerEdge M1000e blade chassis with Dell PowerEdge M I/O Aggregator, Dell PowerEdge M620 blades, Dell EqualLogic Storage and Dell Force10 network switches.
Release: VMware Workstation 9.0.2/Player 5.0.2
VMware has released version 9.0.2 of its desktop virtualization platform Workstation and released version 5.0.2 of Player This version is the follow-up of version 9.0.1 which was released in November last year. The update is considered a maintenance release and resolves some known issues.

PHD Virtual Technologies raises $4M funding
Philadelphia based company PHD Virtual Technologies, a well known player in virtual machine backup and recovery market, today announced it has raised $2M in Series C funding from Citrix and Insight Venture Partners, both current investors in the company, and $2M in Growth Capital from Wellington Financial.
The funds will be used to boost technology R&D and the expansion in the european market.
Survey: Veeam Virtualization Data Protection Report
Today, March 4, Veeam announced the release of its annual Virtualization Data Protection Report.
According to the report, which is a survey of 500 CIOs (Chief Information Officers) into the impact of virtualization on data protection, backup and recovery strategies, reveals that apparently enterprises are still not experiencing fully the possible benefits of a virtualization.
Lakeside Software signs agreement with multiple vendors to use SysTrack MarketPlace
On February 26, Lakeside Software announced integration agreements with technology vendors: Nutanix, Unidesk and World Wide Technology (WWT) to use these vendors’ products within SysTrack MarketPlace.
SysTrack MarketPlace provides analysis for sizing and selecting hardware, software and service infrastructure. The three vendors will integrate into SysTrack MarketPlace as it follows: Nutanix with its converged compute and storage Unidesk will simplify VDI image management and application delivery, and as for WWT report, SysTrack provides a summary of the metrics gathered and describes the infrastructure sizing implications when customers enable workforce with VDI.
Paper: VMware View Infrastructure Resiliency
VMware has released a paper titled: “VMware View Infrastructure Resiliency: VMware View 5 and VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager“. The paper which contains 15 pages provides insight and information on how to increase availability and recoverability of a View infrastructure using VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager (SRM) and common disaster recovery (DR) tools and methodologies.
Release: Atlantis ILIO Persistent VDI 4.0
Atlantis Computing today released version 4.0 of its storage solution for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments. Version 4.0 now allows customers to run persistent virtual desktops using storage which runs in memory only using deduplication and compression techniques. Atlantis claims this makes the VM faster and cheaper than a physical pc. Atlantis ILIO Diskless VDI was only capable of supporting non-persistent VM’s, this has now been expanded to persistent VMs with the new ILIO Persistent VDI solution.
VMware announces end-user computing suite Horizon
VMware last week announced a new suite of end-user computing products called the Horizon Suite. The suite bundles a lot of products which either VMware developed themselves, or did acquire in the last couple of years and is part of the vision which VMware already detailed during the VMware Forum in May last year. The suite consists of VMware’s VDI product View which is now called Horizon View, Horizon Mirage and Horizon Workspace. The suite delivers a complete solution for delivering a consistent virtual workspace across different devices. Among View, Mirage and Workspace also the technologies of Project Octopus and AppBlast, Project AppShift, VMware ThinApp and Horizon Mobile are integrated into this product suite.
