Survey: State of the VDI and SBC union

Virtualization.info has reported numerous of times about Project Virtual Reality Check (VRC) in the past. The project lead by Sven Huisman, technical consultant at PQR, Jeroen van de Kamp, Enterprise Architect and CTO at Login Consultants and Ruben Spruijt, Technology Officer at PQR already delivered a couple ofpapers providing valuable insight into Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) and Server Based Computing (SBC) deployment scenario’s.

Now, Project VRC has launched a survey because they want to provide more insight about the non-technical issues related to VDI and SBC deployments.

Microsoft releases downloadable VHDs for evaluation of System Center 2012 SP1 Beta

Microsoft today announced that it has made available downloadable VHD’s for evaluating the Beta of System Center 2012 SP1, which it announced in September this year.

Since Service Pack 1 will provide support for Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8, it’s much awaited by companies who want to start rolling out and manage Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 using the System Center Suite. Microsoft expects to release Service Pack 1 in early 2013.

Californian company HyTrust delivers control and compliance for virtualization and cloud infrastructure, the HyTrust Appliance is a VMware vSphere-compatible virtual appliance and it can be deployed on the same hypervisor that it is actively protecting.

VMware releases Compliance for Business-Critical Applications in the Cloud

On October 4th, VMware announced the availability of VMware Compliance Reference Architectures, a group of appliances including application guides and design architectures which are supposed to simplify compliance for business-critical applications in the cloud and are designed to assist customers to develop virtualized infrastructure meeting compliance standards.

Dell acquires Quest Software

On Friday September 28, 2012, Dell announced to have completed the acquisition of Quest Software.

Californian Quest was founded in 1978 and it is famous for being the maker of  Toad (Tool for Oracle Application Developers)  used for development and management of relational databases using SQL. Quest software

The company was also known for investing in technology areas such as virtualization, cloud automation and backup and recovery. Apparently Dell has completed its acquisition of Quest Software at $28 a share, or $2.4 billion, in July, the price seems to have been approved by Dell stockholders on September 25. This acquisition would permit Dell to provide an end-to-end solution , by offering virtualization, mobile applications and software deployment services.

Cisco acquires vCider

Cisco just announced to have acquired privately-held vCider.
Californian vCider develops virtual network overlay technology for secure data center infrastructure., according to the acquisition the product will be integrated into Cisco’s Cloud Computing organization, and it is supposed to be an important move for Cisco Open Network Environment (ONE) strategy, in support of OpenStack which Cisco joined over a year ago.

Partnership agreement: Citrix and Palo Alto Networks

Just a couple of weeks ago Citrix announced its partnership with Dutch cloud backup software vendor BackupAgent, today we received the news about its new partnership agreement with Californian Palo Alto Networks.

Citrix is dynamically evoluting,  between new partnerships and acquisitions, such as the last one of Beetil, to compete the rapidly growing market of cloud-based and virtualized services. This new partnership with Palo Alto Networks, a network security company, would permit to create simplified network solutions of desktop virtualization.
