Release: Veeam nworks Management Pack and Smart Plug-In 5.6

In December last year Veeam made available a Release Canditate of version 5.6 of the nworks Smart Plug-In software for monitoring and management of VMware from HP Operations Manager. Now Veeam has released version 5.6. of the Smart Plug-In (SPI) and also released version 5.6. of the nworks Management Pack for monitoring and management of VMware using Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 (SCOM).

Version 5.6. of the Smart Plug-In provides the following new features:

  • Support for HP Operations Manager Linux (OML) Platform
  • Updated Enterprise Manager, accessible from the Ops Manager console and can be integrated as a plug-in into the vCenter client
  • vCenter event queue limit, which helps to define the number of vCenter events that a colllector can receive within a 30 second interval.
  • New Metrics and Events as well as unique nworks readings:
    • Memory compression to monitor the latest enhancement to VMware’s memory over-commit technology in vCenter Server 4.1
    • Disk queue latency to allow increased visibility of resource bottlenecks in ESX storage subsystems
    • Network performance
    • Snapshot age monitoring to alert the IT team to forgotten snapshots that are consuming valuable storage space and degrading performance of virtual machines
    • Fan sensor monitoring
    • New vSphere 4.1 events
  • Message Forwarding, messages of all types can now be divided into groups and placed to dedicated nodes in the Operations Manager console.
  • Improved Collector Performance & Self-Monitoring

Version 5.6. of the Management Pack provides the following new features:

  • New vSphere 4.1 metrics and events
    • Memory compression
    • Disk queue latency
    • Network packet loss
    • Snapshot age monitoring
    • New vSphere 4.1 events
  • Enhanced scalability
    • Improved discovery methods to support hosts with a high VM density (e.g VDI systems)
    • Optimizations of hardware monitoring to improve performance
    • Smart VM grouping reduces discovery thrashing in dynamic environments (e.g with
    • aggressive DRS VMotions)
  • vCenter event queue limit, which helps to define the number of vCenter events that a colllector can receive within a 30 second interval.
  • Fan sensor monitoring
