Following the last release in July Citrix announced version 5.4 of its all-in-one VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) soultion VDI-in-a-Box.
The major features introduced, leveraging the same technology of XenDesktop 7.1, are the support for Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V and VMware ESXi 5.5 (and related vSphere implementations) in addition to Windows 8.1 as virtual desktop guest OS.
We briefly review the new features detailed in the blog post:
- Support for Windows Server 2012 R2 with Windows 8.1 skin in order to use Microsoft SPLA licensing for VDI offerings
- Support for shared storage in Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V
- New built-in HTML5 device support
- Multiple computer domains support in order to allow desktop segregation for security, regulatory or compliance reasons
- Support for follow-me desktops for classrooms
- Enhanced golden images lifecycle support
- Enhanced SSL certificates managements via UI
- Integration with Microsoft Remote Assistance
