Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH headquartered in Vienna, Austria announced to have released the version 3.4 of Proxmox Virtual Environment, an open source virtualization management solution that leverages KVM technologies. Proxmox joined on 2014 the non-profit technology institution: Linux Foundation, supporting the development of Linux and open sources companies.

Release: Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.5
Yesterday February 11, Red Hat has announced the global availability of version 3.5 of its virtualization platform: Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (aka RHEV).
RHEV is based on the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor and in this latest release introduced the support for four terabytes (4 TB) of memory per host, 4 TB of vRAM and 160 vCPUs per virtual machine.
Release: Oracle VM 3.3.2
Oracle has released version 3.3.2 of its enterprise virtualizatoin solution. The virtualization solution is available for both x86 and SPARC based processor architectures and uses the Xen hypervisor technology, supporting Windows, Linux and Oracle Solaris guests. Version 3.3.2 is considered a maintenance release and can be installed on top of Oracle VM 3.3.1 environments.
Oracle VM consists of 2 main components, the Oracle VM Manager, which is a web based console used to manage Oracle VM Servers, which is a server running a version of the Xen hypervisor containing a VM agent which communicates with VM Manager.

NIMBOXX acquires VERDE assets from Virtual Bridges
NIMBOXX a company which creates converged hardware appliances combining storage, server, networking and virtualization technology announced that it has acquired the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) technology product VERDE from Virtual Bridges. Also the staff, customers and partners involved with VERDE VDI will be transferred. With this acquisition NIMBOXX can offer a complete VDI solution for its customers. The last release of VERDE which virtualization.info covered was in October 2013, since then the company only released a 7.1 version with minimal changes, how NIMBOXX is planning to further develop the product is not disclosed.
Citrix announces to cut 900 Jobs
Last week Citrix announced its financial reports for Q4 and Fiscal year 2014, despite the positive results that the company had for full year 2014, the general opinion is that the company is underperfoming, and in addition Citrix also disclosed that will lay off 900 employees across its worldwide offices, due to a “so called” restructuring program.
Paper: Reference Architecture – Lenovo Client Virtualization
Lenovo has published a paper titled:"Reference Architecture: Lenovo Client Virtualization". The paper which contains 44 pages contains a reference architecture for Server Based Computing (SBC) and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) using Lenovo products. The reference architecture is targeted towards IT architects, system administrators and managers. The Lenovo Client Virtualization (LCV) reference architecture supports a wide range of hardware, hypervisors and software platforms from multiple vendors.
VMware acquires Immidio
VMware today announced that it has acquired Immidio. Immidio provides several User Environment Management related product: Immidio AppScriber and Immidio Flex+. With the acquisition of Immidio VMware wants to fill its UEM gap, with the Immidio Flex+ product. Immidio Flex + which will become part of the Horizon product portfolio, together with VMware App Volumes, and VMware vRealize Operations Manager.
VMware announces Virtual SAN 6 and vSphere Virtual Volumes
Together with announcing vSphere 6, VMware also announced Virtual SAN version 6. Virtual SAN is the software-defined storage offering from VMware that enables pooling of storage capabilities within exsisting servers. VMware also announced vSphere Virtual Volumes, which is a set of storage APIs that will enable a more granular integration between external storage (SAN/NAS) and VMware vSphere at the individual virtual machine level.
VMware announces vSphere 6.0
In July last year, VMware released a Public Beta of vSphere 6.0, and even though the beta was public, participants were to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) stopping them for spreading details of new functionality. During VMworld in September last year more information was publicly shared. Yesterday VMware announced version 6.0 of its virtualization platform vSphere, meaning that the product is feature complete and is expected to be available in Q1 2015.
Citrix announces Q4 and fiscal year 2014 results
Citrix announced its financial results for fourth quarter and fiscal year 2014, ended December 31, 2014.
Citrix announced a total revenue for Q4 of $851 million, for an increase of 6% compared to Q4 2013. The total revenue of fiscal year 2014 has been of $3.14 billion, for an increase of 8% compared to $2.92 billion for fiscal year 2013.
