VMware has released version 8 of its virtualization platform Workstation. While normally in-line with Workstation also Player and ACE are updated, no information on an updated version for these two products can be found (yet).
This version of Workstation includes the following new features:
- Remote Connections, providing a seamless way to establish remote connections to hosts running in Workstation, vSphere and vCenter.
- Sharing VMs, the ability to share a VM which can be accessed remotely
- Upload to vSphere, the ability to upload a VM to vSphere
- Modified User Interface
- New VM capabilities, providing HD audio with 7.1 surround sound, USB3 and Bluetooth devices, virtual SMP improvements, 3D graphics performance and support for 64 GB RAM.
VMware Workstation 8 is immediately available for purchase for $199. Upgrades from VMware Workstation 6.x and 7.x are available for $99.
