A maintenance update of Oracle VirtualBox has been announced on June 27, targeting the 4.x series which was released on last December.
VirtualBox is an open source desktop virtualization solution, available for free and competing with VMware Player for the non professional users.
This release improves stability, fixes regressions and prepares the way for Mac OS X Lion Hosts.
Some of the improvements with this release are:
- GUI: fixed disappearing settings widgets on KDE hosts
- Storage: fixed hang under rare circumstances with flat VMDK images
- Storage: a saved VM could not be restored under certain circumstances after the host kernel was updated
- USB: fixed occasional VM hangs with SMP guests
- OVF: under rare circumstances some data at the end of a VMDK file was not written during export
- Mac OS X hosts: Lion fixes
- Mac OS X hosts: GNOME 3 fix
- Linux hosts: fixed VT-x detection on Linux 3.0 hosts
- Windows hosts: fixed leak of thread and process handles
