Midokura and Cumulus Networkd announced a partnership preparing an offer for customers to manage workloads on virtual and non virtualized infrastructure, besides the cooperation between the two companies will allow its users the flexibility to adopt different industry standard networking hardware, networking operating systems and applications according to customer’s needs.
Japanese startup Midokura, focused on network virtualization and based in San Francisco and Cumulus Networks a company designs and sells a Linux-based operating system for industry standard network switches to deliver networking solutions for large datacenter, cloud computing and enterprise environments and which is a VMware partner that supports NSX. The partnership plans to offer a joint technology solution between Q2 and Q3 2014.
Almost one year ago Midokura released MidoNet, a network virtualization solution integrated with OpenStack Quantum networking project, the product is specifically designed for Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solutions. Together with Cumulus Networks technologies it would be possible for the companies to offer a software-defined data center and extends a multi-platform operating system for networking hardware to simplify massive-capacity next-generation data center networks.
MidoNet technology, joined with Cumulus Linux, will enable customers to:
- Preserve workloads on bare-metal servers and plan migration cycles based on operational demand thereby not forcing customers to upgrade hardware for implementing an SDN solution;
- Deploy virtual networks to interoperate with physical networks and leverage a company’s existing infrastructure investment;
- Provide the desired performance for production-class network traffic with wire rates, offering flexibility and programmability as an underlay.
Dan Mihai Dumitriu, Midokura CEO and co-founder, said:
The partnership between Midokura and Cumulus Networks represents a significant step forward in the modern networking movement, by enabling virtual networks to span across both virtual and physical workloads, we will give customers the power of choice and the ability to experience networking without constraints.
Reza Malekzadeh, VP of Business, Cumulus Networks, declared:
Virtual networks are a central part of the data center and more organizations are seeking better ways to scale virtual environments, we are pleased to partner with Midokura to allow joint users to do this easily and in the most cost effective manner possible by removing the barriers of rigid, proprietary hardware devices with demanding workload mobility.
