After releasing App-V 4.6 in March last year, Microsoft has now made available Service Pack 1 for App-V 4.6 which is part of the Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) 2011. Most of the new features are focussed around the sequencer, which is the tool part of App-V to transform traditional applications into virtual ones.
Besides fixing bugs Service Pack 1 provides the following new features:
- App-V Sequencer improvements
- App-V Package Accelerators, which can be used to automatically sequence large, complex applications
- Enhanced support for sequencing different types of applications (Standard, Add-on or Plug-in or Middleware), more details in this post from Ment van der Plas
- Support for App-V project Templates, used to save commonly applied settings associated with an existing application package
- Step-by-step help during Sequencing
- Enhanced reporting for identifying sequencing issues
- Support for using a read-only cache on Remote Desktop Services, which was already supported for VDI environments with the 4.6 release. (see detailed analysis at that time from Ruben Spruijt)
- Support for sequencing the Microsoft .NET Framework 4
