Yesterday Microsoft has finally released a (beta) version of its Linux Integration Services for Hyper-V virtual machines that support multiple vCPUs.
Specifically, the new component introduces:
- SMP support for Linux workloads
Linux virtual machines running on Hyper-V will be able to use up to 4 virtual CPU’s - Timesync
Linux VM’s running on Hyper-V will be able to synchronize their time with the parent partition - Integrated Shutdown
You will be able to shut down a Linux virtual machine gracefully from the Hyper-V manager
Microsoft is supporting this features for Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 10 SP3, SLES 11 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4.
The company also announced its plan to submit the new code to the Linux kernel maintainers for inclusion.
