VMworld Europe 2014 in Barcelona has seen Pat Gelsinger (VMware CEO), Bill Fathers (EVP and GM, Hybrid Cloud Services Business Unit) and Sanjay Poonen (EVP and GM, End-User Computing) in Tuesday’s general sessions, Carl Eschenbach (President) and Ben Fathi (CTO) on stage today.
A lot of focus was on the consolidation and enrichment around vCloud Air service base, presented at VMworld 2014 in San Francisco, but the announcements covered several areas and can be summarized as follows:
- VMware vCloud Air services will be available in Germany starting from Q1 2015 expanding the current UK-only location in Europe.
- Horizon DaaS has been rebranded to VMware Horizon Air and complemented with VMware Horizon Air Desktop DR a VDI disaster recovery solution tailored for the workforce continuity.
- The Horizon portfolio has been furtherly enriched with the announcement of Horizon Flex. Horizon Flex provides centralized management of client-side offline virtual machines enforcing per-user or per-group policies also in BYO scenarios.
- CloudVolumes, acquired this August, has been rebranded VMware App Volumes and integrated at the broker level with VMware Horizon 6 and VMware Workspace Suite.
- VMware vRealize Suite, already introduced in San Francisco, has been explained as follows:
- vRealize Automation (Advanced or Enterprise), is the former vCloud Automation Center, offered in SaaS as vRealize Air Automation
- vRealize Operations (Advanced or Enterprise), is the former vCenter Operations Management Suite, offered in SaaS as vRealize Air Operations
- vRealize Log Insight, is the former vCenter Log Insight
- vRealize Business(Standard, Advanced or Enterprise), is the former IT Business Management, offered in SaaS as vRealize Air Business
- vRealize Air Compliance has been announced, is a Configuration Compliance Management tool for vSphere offered in SaaS.
- vRealize Code Stream has been announced, is a product built to provide automation and governance in the software release process.
