VMware has released version 1.5 of its log management, aggregation and analysis solution: Log Insight. VMware is clearly speeding up the development cycle of its product due to the popularity of Splunk which provides similar functionality. Log Insights provides analytics capabilities to unstructured data and log files collected from various products.
Version 1.5 provides the following new features:
- Support for Microsoft Active Directory based Access Control
- Performance improvements for Queries and Dashboards which are executed frequently
- Analytical queries improvements, by introducing the Unique Count function
- Content Pack (collection of predefined Dashboards, Alerts, Queries, etc.) Framework improvements
- Integration improvements with vSphere and vCenter Operations Manager
- UI based in-place upgrades
- User selection for deployment types
- Health monitor improvements of the Log Insight Virtual Appliance
