Release: VKernel vOps Server Explorer 6.0

VKernel today announced the release of vOps Server Explorer version 6.0 suite. Version 6.0 is the follow up of version 5.1 which was released in August this year.

Version 6.0 which is offered as a free download and is now also offered as a Virtual Appliance (VA) which runs on Hyper-V. Besides that vOps Server Explorer already provided appliances for VMware vSphere and Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV).

In order to run the appliance on Hyper-V, VKernel requires that either Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) 2008 R2 and System Center Operations Manager 2007 (SCOM) R2 or System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager and System Center 2012 Operations Manager are available as well.

VKernel was acquired by Quest in November last year, and since Quest now owned by DELL, VKernel is part of DELL as well.

The vOps Server Explorer suite consists of the following tools:

  • Environment Explorer

Provides statistics of all hardware and virtual objects in an environment, provides insight in configuration and performance issues and gives insight into efficiency problems and capacity.

  • vScope Explorer

Assesses the health of a virtualized environment, identifying hosts, VM’s and datastores that suffer performance, capacity and efficiency issues.

  • SearchMyVM Explorer

Provides Google-like search capabilities into a virtual environment

Users are able to upgrade to vOPS Server Standard edition, which features remediation and pulls extra information from the environment.
