VMware has released an update to its Application Virtualization solution ThinApp. Version 4.6.1 is considered a maintenance release which can be installed on top of ThinApp 4.6 which was released in September last year.
This update provides more than 160 fixes for packaging Microsoft Office 2010 (see Quick start Guide) and other popular packages, like Google Chrome, Firefox+Foxit Reader, Internet Explorer and Office Communicator.
The update provides the following new features, which are fully detailed in the release notes:
- ThinDirect automatic browser redirection improvements, supporting automatic browser redirection for links referenced within javascript.
- Option to control child process names using a new package.ini option, which makes it possible to have the process shown under its original name, so it can be monitored and controlled similar to locally installed applications
- Support for Side-by-Side (SxS) COM, so now applications can create COM objects within installation or registration in the registry.
